Brick Kiln Slavery: Freeing Those in Bondage

Many people do not realize that bonded labor and forms of modern slavery still exist in parts of the Muslim world. In Pakistan, one common form is found in brick kiln communities, where poor families become trapped in cycles of crushing debt.

Families often fall into debt because of illness, emergencies, poverty, or other financial hardship. In desperation, they may take a high-interest loan from a brick kiln owner. If they cannot repay it, the entire family can be forced into bonded labor, working in brick yards or stone quarries to pay off the debt.

In reality, freedom is extremely difficult to reach. Families are often charged inflated amounts for food, housing, and basic necessities, causing the debt to grow faster than it can be repaid. What begins as one loan can become a cycle of bondage that lasts for years or even generations.

In many cases, the only way out is for someone to pay the debt in full. Even then, efforts to free families can be dangerous, because kiln owners profit far more from keeping people trapped than from letting them go.

Bible Distribution and Discipleship

Bible distribution was the foundational mission for True Light Assemblies. They printed and distributed between one and two hundred bibles per month in the first six years of this project.

Orphans and Widows

Pakistan is a 10/40 window mission field in itself. True Light Assemblies does its best to serve widows and orphans among themselves in an increasingly marginalized Pakistani Christian population.

Outreach: Spreading the Gospel

True Light also preaches the good news of Jesus Christ to the local population.  "Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."  - Matthew 28:18-20

School for Special Needs Children

True Light Assemblies also runs a school for special needs children. This was actually one of their first ministries.
